Casino Deposit Bonuses Guide

A casino deposit bonus, also known as a sticky bonus or match bonus, is when an online casino gives a depositing player additional value on top of their deposit amount. Deposit bonuses may be part of a welcome package and they can also be offered to existing casino customers as a reload bonus.

There are two types of casino deposit bonuses, sticky and non-sticky bonuses. In this article we will talk about casino deposit bonuses (sticky bonuses).

How a Casino Deposit Bonus, or Match Deposit Bonus Works

Match deposit bonus – 100% up to €100, 30x wagering on both deposit + bonus.

  • Paul activates a 100% up to €100 deposit bonus by depositing €50 and receiving a €50 bonus.
  • In total Paul has €100 to play with (deposit balance of 50€ + a bonus balance of €50).
  • In order to complete the wagering requirement Paul needs to wager €3000 [(50 + 50) * 30].
  • If Paul manages to convert the bonus successfully by completing the wagering requirement, the funds will become cashable.
  • If not, the bonus can end in three ways, either Paul loses his deposit and bonus balance and therefore the bonus ends, or it expires, or Paul decides to cancel before completing the wagering requirement in which case the bonus funds and any winnings will be forfeited.

Other Examples of Deposit Bonuses

100% up to €100 + 30 Free Spins. Min deposit €20 | 30x wagering for both deposit bonus & Free Spins Win

  • Refer to the match deposit bonus example above and add on 30 Free Spins to the offer.
  • Paul take his 30 Free Spins and ends up winning €3. The €3 is referred to as Paul’s free spin winnings. These need to be wagered 30x before they can be withdrawn. So Paul needs to wager a further €90.
  • If Paul manages to convert the successfully by completing the wagering requirement, the funds will become cashable.
  • If not, the free spins win can end in three ways, either Paul loses free spins winnings or it expires, or Paul decides to cancel before completing the wagering requirement in which case the free spins win will be forfeited.

  • In order to complete the wagering requirement Jenny needs to wager €1800 [(20 + 40) * 30].
  • If Jenny manages to convert the bonus successfully by completing the wagering requirement, the funds will become cashable.
  • If not, the bonus can end in three ways, either Jenny loses her deposit and bonus balance and therefore the bonus ends, or it expires, or Jenny decides to cancel before completing the wagering requirement in which case the bonus funds and any winnings will be forfeited.

50% up to €500, Min deposit €20 | 30x wagering on both deposit + bonus

What is the difference between a sticky and non sticky deposit bonus?

A Casino Bonus or Sticky Bonus

  1. Your restricted cash and bonus balance are mixed
  2. The wagering can be applied to both deposit + bonus, or just the bonus.
  3. The restricted cash + bonus funds = bonus balance.
  4. The only way to withdraw your bonus balance is to either convert the bonus by completing the wagering requirement, or by cancelling the bonus, or if the bonus expires.
  5. If you cancel the bonus or the bonus expires, you lose the bonus funds + winnings, but any remaining cash becomes withdrawable.

Non Sticky Bonus

  1. Also known as a second life or a lifeline bonus.
  2. The cash and bonus balance are kept separate.
  3. You start playing with your cash balance first.
  4. The cash balance & winnings can be withdrawn (however you will forfeit the bonus balance).
  5. If you use the bonus balance, the wagering requirement kicks in (on the bonus balance only).

Are Casino Deposit Bonuses worth it?

Casino deposit bonuses such as match deposit bonuses essentially double your bankroll thus you end up with longer playing time. Whether they are worth it or not depends on what type of player you are. If you are looking to get in, play and withdraw any lucky wins without having to wager anything, then a deposit bonus is not really for you.

On the other hand if you are looking for longer hours of fun and entertainment, then you should claim a deposit bonus once you have gone through the terms and conditions and are happy with them.
